Purpose: In this paper, a wireless PPG transmitter headset device was proposed to measure subject¡¯s photoplethsmography(PPG). The aim of the study is to acquire the subject¡¯s biomedical signal without any constraint. Zigbee Wireless PAN was used as wireless communication technology and its most significant advantage of low-power mode was implemented to this design concept.
Materials and Method: The device is made to be headset type for earlobe PPG recording. The developed system is composed of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter has microcontroller, three-axial acceleration sensor, PPG circuit and Zigbee communication controller. The Receiver has microcontroller, serial communication and Zigbee communication controller.
Result: In sitting and walking experiment, PPG signal could be recorded with minimized motion artifact. In addition, its usefulness of internal acceleration sensor was tested to detect the falling event of subject in emergent situation.
Conclusion: Therefore, it can be used to help the elderly and mobility limited people in u-Health environment.
